October's Robot-adventures
During our first month of Coding and Robotics we practiced our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) skills and went on fun adventures to discover the interesting world or robots. We practiced programming by communicating with our little robot-friends and solving different fun challenges while enjoying fun educational offline games.
Robot-mouse and Bluebot
To start with our robot adventure we learned about robot-mouse and the different games we can create with it to test our programming and creative thinking skills.
We started learning about the differences(speed, size, colors, parts, weight) that each robot has and how we can understand those to better program our little robot-friends.
We also practiced our math skills by programming the robots in settings that we have to put our counting skills to the test and by working as a team to achieve the goal.
To celebrate the halloween month we also practice our programming skills in fun activities where we had to interact with spooky characters.
Offline Coding and Engineering Activities
To practice our coding skills we don't necessarily have to be in front of a screen nor with a robot. We can apply the same basic sequence method in different life's settings.
We can create fun offline games like the one we played where Nando(or any person) can be the robot and the team had to use their communication and teamwork skills to program the person to go to specific spots of the grid on the floor, just like a robot. We did it with command cards but it can also be played by giving commands orally.
We experimented with toy tools and how we can create movement through the assembly of different parts in specific ways, which is also important to understand how something is built. We used Mekaniko to help us understand more about it. It also helps the kids develop their fine motricity skills which can be useful in other activities such as writing and drawing.
Halloween Adventure To Find CodApillar
Wednesdays Group
During the Halloween week of 2021 each group went on a fun Halloween quest to find our new robot friend who was hiding somewhere in Gimbebé.
We had to go through small challenges that put our STEAM skills to the test where we needed to program Bluebot, avoid aliens, search for pumpkins and dance with our Dingle Dangle Scarecrow in campus.
With the help of our little friend Robot-mouse we solved problems together with our spooky Halloween characters to find the next clues.
Our final price, after following all the clues and solving challenges, was our new friend CodApillar; a new cute robot that looks like a caterpillar and which will help us practice our STEAM skills.
Thursdays Group
To find CodApillar we went on a circuit which included many activities where we had to put the abilities learned during the last month to the test while enjoying fun obstacles.
Robot-mouse was one of our main characters, that with the help of our Halloween songs, helped us practice our programming skills.
We had to avoid creepy spiderwebs in some obstacles and we needed to program our friend Bluebot to avoid the tricky aliens to get to its friend the Itsy Bitsy spider.
We also had to work as a team to help each other put the numbers in the correct order to build roads to get to our final price: CodApillar the robot.
