December's Robot-adventures
December was a month full of activities that lifted our Xmas spirit up. We practiced our programming skills, both online and offline, by playing fun board games and other fun games with the robots.
Offline Balls Cannon Game
We practiced our programming abilities by playing real life games where the kids have to code a real person into following a path that leads it to a specific target on the grid. In this game the kids practice their shapes vocabulary and puzzle assembling skills, developing a deeper understanding of applying their STEAM skills in a real-life situation.
In this kind of offline games the kids use their critical thinking skills and teamwork abilities to guide the robot(in this case Nando) to a specific place on the grid. This game can be played at home as well with the help of an adult to play as "the robot".
How?
Select a specific location as starting point and one(or more) spots on the grid and let the kid gives instructions/commands to the person being the robot until it reaches the target point. As reward you can use your creativity like the following:
1. When they reach the goal they can hit 'the robot' with balls or something soft like sponges, mainly not to get hurt, and you can pretend to be a famous character they are already familiar with.
2. They get extra points and every time they hit a target they earn more.
Offline Board game and Xmas Gift
We played board games that lit up our Xmas spirits up by singing Xmas songs, decorate trees and taught us new Xmas vocabulary.
Some of the benefits of playing board games:
- Hand-eye coordination.
- Patience.
- Critical Thinking.
- Mathematical skills.
Robot Xmas Gift
Santa came to our school and brought a new Bluebot's grid to play with and take our programming skills to a next level.
To receive our gift we had to go through different adventures that's tested our STEAM abilities. All the games we use are educational and there's always a specific set of learning goals that lead us to our destination.
Bluebot's Pirate Map Grid
We discovered Bluebot's new accessory, which is a grid that has a pirate map on it that can be played also with the tablet; by using Bluebot's App we have a digital view of the commands and can play online challenges with this little robot. We also use it to make our own stories and create our own games.
